Captcha glossary
The terms that actually matter when you are integrating.
sitekey
The public key identifying a captcha widget on a page. Usually in a data-sitekey attribute. Required on nearly every solve request.
Token
The string a solved challenge produces, submitted with your form. Typically valid for about 120 seconds.
Score (reCAPTCHA v3)
A 0.1–0.9 grade of how human a session looks. v3 never shows a challenge; the score is the product.
pageAction
The action name a v3 page reports, such as login. Scores are graded per action, so a mismatch is discounted.
Session-graded anti-bot
Systems like DataDome that grade the whole session and return a cookie rather than a token. The cookie is bound to the exit IP that earned it.
Proof of work
A small computation the client must perform, used by Turnstile among others. It is why Turnstile is inherently slower than a pure token mint.
